Spain: Canary Islands

The seven Canary Islands are west of Africa, lie on the same latitude as Morocco and a have wonderful climate throughout the year. The largest island of the Canary Archipelago is Tenerife and the northern part is without a doubt the best the island has to offer. Garachico, the most beautiful and authentic town of the island, has old colonial houses. Some of the historic buildings have been transformed into cosy places for overnight stays. Along the coast the lava flows have over the years, formed natural swimming pools. In the city centre lies the contemporary boutique Hotel San Roque, an 18th century mansion.

Our favourite family hotel in Tenerife, the Abama Resort, is on the west coast of Tenerife, overlooking the island of La Gomera. The terracotta colour resort is uniquely situated on a slope and surrounded by exceptional vegetation with over 300 different plants, numerous palm trees and a beautiful golf course. The Ritz Carlton Abama includes a main building and terraced villa rooms.
It is possible to sail by ferry from Tenerife to La Gomera in just two hours. La Gomera is a very special, small island with exquisite nature. It is possible to do this as a day trip but you can also stay overnight, for example, in the beautiful Parador La Gomera. Alternatively Hotel Jardin Tecina, located on a cliff on the sunny side of the south coast amid a 70,000m² garden. This lovely hotel is very popular with hikers and a short walking distance from the golf course and from Playa de Santiago. A combination holiday of Tenerife and La Gomera is one of the possibilities and in this case we can also take care of the ferry tickets for you.

Gran Canaria is a very versatile island, the south coast has the most beautiful beaches attracting the most tourists. Our favourite is the Grand Hotel Residencia which is surrounded by the palm-tree forest of Maspalomas and lies within walking distance of the beach. The beautiful green north coast is for those who love nature and tranquillity. The historical 19th century Las Longueras Estate lies in the valley of Agaete just 2km from the sea. The mansion part of a large estate of 173 hectares of orange, avocado, mango and papaya trees.

Fuerteventura is known for its beautiful beaches. Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Realis wqas chosen by Condé Nast Traveller as the “most excellent European waterside hotel in 2013”. This luxury hotel, with outdoor swimming pool, is located on the edge of a national park with beautiful white sand dunes. Another good choice is the Villas Playitas which is located in the fishing village with the same name and just 5 minutes walk from the beach promenade. The villas have a private pool with a large terrace, 2 bedrooms, bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen.
