Moroccan Beaches

The more than 1000 km long coastline from Tangier to beyond Agadir has hardly been developed but has a lot to offer. Here you will find historic seaside towns that date back to the 15th and 16th centuries and that were built by the Portuguese and Spaniards. Fishing is still the main source of income and the ports are lively and full of activities. This is the place where fresh fish is served and where the sardines from the fishingboats, end up directly on your plate after grilling.

As you drive 200km southwards from Casablanca you will arrive at Oualidia, a quiet resort with vast, quiet beaches. Off the coast are islands that break the waves, creating a lagoon with calm bathing water and where migrating birds are to be seen in the spring and autumn. This small seaside town is known for its delicious oysters and its special boutique hotels.
La Sultana has a private beach and a wonderful 40-meter outdoor swimming pool. There are only 11 rooms and suites with a fireplace and a private terrace with jacuzzi. For a special experience stay in the Treehouse (45 m2), a luxury tree house with a view of the lagoon.
Azalai, known for their unique desert lodges, has recently opened a beautiful beach hotel along on the coast. In addition to nine beautiful hotel rooms, the Azalai Beach Cottage also offers a villa by the sea.

About 180 km south of Oualidia lies the charming coastal town of Essaouira, with a picturesque fishing port and a walled historic center. It was loved by the hippies in the 70s and is known as a meeting place for (kite) surfers. The completely walled fortified city is situated on a vast bay with a walking and cycling promenade. Within the city walls lies L’Heure Bleue, an attractive riad with a rooftop swimming pool. In the hills outside the city lies Le Jardin des Douars in peace with beautiful hotel rooms and three villas, each with four bedrooms and a private swimming pool. In the area of ​​Essaouira many sports activities are possible such as cycling, walking, surfing and there is a beautiful golf course. Because Marrakech is only a 2-hour drive away, it is easy to combine.

Attractive small-scale hotels are hard to find in Agadir, the largest seaside resort in the country. But Riad Villa Blanche is an exception, the most charming hotel in the area has a quiet location near the sea. It is built like a classical riad, with a centrally located patio, ornaments and lighting in Moroccan style. Villa Blanche is praised for its high level of comfort, the cozy bar, its excellent restaurant and the excellent service.
Surfers like to stay in Taghazout, just north of Agadir, where the waves are higher. Located directly on a long sandy beach, Hotel Paradis Plage is suitable for surfers and yoga enthusiasts.
