South Africa: Family Adventure

South Africa is perfect for an exciting family adventure filled with a variety of activities. It is easy to reach with direct flights from Amsterdam, a time difference of just 1 hour and it has malaria-free nature parks. The journey begins in Cape Town, the bustling city by the sea where there is much to see and do. Climbing the 1085m high Table Mountain should definitely be on the program! Simon’s Town, is where the largest penguin colony in South Africa lives, and is just a 45 minute drive away. Cape Town offers a wide range of accommodation options.

On day four depart by rental car and drive to De Hoop Reserve, a beautiful nature park by the sea, a 3 hours’ drive, with lots of fun activities and overnight stays in De Hoop Collection cottages. The journey continues via Swellendam, one of the oldest wine towns in the country, to Oudshoorn. In Buffelsdrift Game Lodge you sleep in a tent by the lake and you can participate in various safari activities. When the weather permits, a meeting with meerkats is on the program in the morning.

The journey continues via Plettenberg to Addo Elephant Park, which is known for its large herds of elephants. In Addo African Home you sleep in rondavels or tents and you it is possible to explore this park with your own car. Finally, Sibuya Game Reserve is on the program with an overnight stay in Forest Camp, only accessible by boat. Two daily game drives or bushwalks under the supervision of an expert ranger are included (minimum age game drive is 6 years), as well as canoeing, fishing and swimming. At an additional cost it is also possible to opt for the more luxurious Kwandwe Game Reserve for a great safari experience in a 22,000-hectare private concession. At the end of the journey, you will return the rental car at Port Elizabeth Airport and fly back via Johannesburg to Amsterdam.
