Argentina & Uruguay

Buenos Aires, is located at the Río de la Plata and has more than 11 million inhabitants which makes it one of the largest cities in South America. The Argentinean capital has a European atmosphere which is why it is also called the “Paris” of South America. Buenos Aires is an intriguing city with different neighbourhoods, each with its own character. The Avenida 9 de Julio is the widest avenue in the world and the obelisk found here is an imitation of the one on the Place de la Concorde in Paris. In the old city centre you will see neo-classical palaces and several wide avenues with town squares.  The colourful La Boca district with its picturesque houses, is home to many musicians and artists.
The neighbourhoods Palermo, Recoleta and Retiro form the northern city district and have stately in French styled houses dating from the early twentieth century. This is one of the best locations to stay in the city with many hotel offers. For a trendy hotel in Palermo with a contemporary decor and a nice price Own Hotel  would be a good choice. For a longer stay we recommend the Hollywood Suites & Lofts , located in Palermo and with a rooftop swimming pool.

It is possible to crossover by ferry from Buenos Aires to Uruguay, the small neighbor of Argentina and Brazil. The UNESCO town of Colonia del Sacramento is just 1 hour away and is often the starting point of a visit to this tiny country. The white lighthouse is a landmark and, together with colorful houses, streets with cobblestones and vintage cars, it forms the backdrop for this idyllic town. The Charco hotel is one of the lovely guesthouses we can recommend for you to stay.

The capital Montevideo is located on the south coast and here skyscrapers and colonial buildings come together at the harbor and the sandy beach. Uruguay has approximately 600 km of coastline and the most beautiful beaches are to be found further north-east. A popular seaside resort is the fishing village of José Ignacio, a hip place with beautiful design hotels, sandy beaches and excellent restaurants. Parador La Huella is one of the nicest beach bars in the southern hemisphere. You can spend the night in guesthouses or in the beautiful VIK design hotels such as Playa Vik and Bahia Vik. Further north are the chic & shabby hip seaside towns of La Pedreira and Cabo Polonia, also quieter and a little rougher.

The hinterlands consists of vast grassy plains and hills and are the terrain of the gauchos, real cowboys, who live in authentic ranches. Uruguay is one of the safest countries in South America and has yet to be discovered by tourists. Rent a car and discover this lovely country!
