Thailand: Family Adventure.

An ideal mixture of nature, culture and beach. This journey begins in the outskirts of Bangkok in the River Kwai Jungle Raft Lodge situated in a unique location on the Kwai Noi River. Hereafter a journey by train will bring you to the lush green Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand. This is a good base for hiking and trekking through the authentic Thai countryside. The journey ends on Koh Samui, a tropical bounty island with beautiful beaches.

Day 1: flight by KLM to Bangkok

Day 2: arrival Bangkok
A transfer to Kanchanaburi, about 2 ½ hours from Bangkok. Here you will step onboard a long-tail boat that will bring you in 15 minutes to the River Kwai Jungle Raft Lodge, with a unique location on the Kwai Noi River. There are a total of 100 floating simple rooms, all made of bamboo and with a private bathroom with sink / shower and a veranda with hammock. There is no electricity here so oil lamps illuminate the night in this unique hotel.

Day 3 &4: River Kwai Jungle Raft
There is plenty to do here in the jungle such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, rafting, elephant riding, mountain bike or hiking in the area.

Day 5: Bangkok-Chiang Mai
Today you will return to Bangkok for the flight to Chiang Mai. A transfer will bring you to your hotel. Chiang Mai is the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom and there are beautiful temples to be seen dating from this period. There are different ethnic groups living in this area, each with their own characteristics.

Day 6: Chiang Mai
In the morning a visit to the city with its temples and to see some workshops with the old crafts such as weaving silk, silver and wood carvings are still being practiced. In the late afternoon a visit to the Buddhist monastery Wat Suan Dok, where you will be greeted by the monks who will explain their religion and meditation methodes.

Day 7: Chiang Mai
This morning the bikes will be ready for you to take a bike-ride through the Thai countryside. Passing rice fields and small villages you will receive an introduction to the authentic Thai rural life. The afternoon is free to spend beside the pool.

Day 8: Chiang Mai Lisu Lodge
Today departure for Mae Rim, where you will visit a Buffalo training camp, which aims to preserve Thai buffalo. See how the local villagers plant and harvesting rice and how they work the rice fields with their trained buffaloes. Then a visit to an orchid farm and on to Mae Sa Snake Farm. Here different species of snake have been collected and are studied. Snake experts will show you a large variety of non-toxic and poisonous snakes, of which the cobra is the highlight. The journey then continues to the Lisu Lodge, a unique eco lodge about 1 ½ hours from Chiang Mai for dinner and overnight in a simple but lovely room with a fan, shower and toilet.

Day 9 Lisu Lodge
A visit to an elephant camp and an elephant trek through the mountainous jungle with it’s beautiful nature are on the program today. Lunch will be served on the riverbank and in the afternoon you will travel by raft downriver to a traditional Thai village. After returning to the Lisu Lodge a tour of the village including a visit to the house of the medicine man.

Day 10 Lisu Lodge – Chiang Mai
After returning Chiang Mai in about 1 ½ hours a flight via Bangkok will bring you Koh Samui for a lovely beach stay in a hotel of your choice.
