Fascinating Istanbul

The Turkish capital is beautifully situated on the Bosporus, that connects the Sea of Marmaris with the Black Sea. Istanbul is a city rich in history and because of its location on the border between Asia and Europe, there is a wonderful oriental atmosphere present to be found in for example: the fragrant filled bazaars, Turkish baths, countless minarets and belly dancers. In the old districts you can spend the night in former Ottoman mansions, with the major attractions within walking distance. The more than one thousand year old Hagia Sophia was one of the largest Christian churchs and because of it’s magical spaciousness it was named the eighth wonder of the world. A visit to the Topkapi Palace- with beautiful pavilions, kitchens, baths, gardens, harem and beautiful jewellery – gives a good insight into the rich court life of the sultans.

One of our favourite hotels is Ibrahim Pasha in the historic Sultanahmet district. In this former Ottoman mansion tasteful antique furniture is combined with modern design. The hotel has a small breakfast room and a lovely rooftop terrace. The 12 standard rooms are not large, but well equipped. The 7 Deluxe rooms are more spacious and have a private patio. For those who prefer staying in a hotel with swimming pool, the Ciragan Palace is a good option.
