Sweden: Åre ski resort

Åre is the largest and finest ski resort in Scandinavia. A combination of beautiful Swedish nature with great skiing conditions and a rich nightlife. Åre is the best choice for skiers who are looking for variety of activities: scooter safaris, dog sledding, ice caves, Icelandic ponies and the new Zipline cable car. It’s northern location guarantees perfect snow from December to May.
There are 83 lifts, which provide access to 98 kilometers of ski-slopes (10 km. Green, 39 km. Blue, 43 km. Red and 6 km. Black). The ski area reaches up to 1274 meters and there are opportunities for winter sports for all levels of skiers, snowboarders and cross-country (56 km trails). Night skiing is a unique possibility; the quiet and almost deserted night slopes offer the possibility of skiing long after sunset.
For those who would like to enjoy lunch on the slopes, there is great a choice of 20 restaurants. The lively après-ski of Åre is famous. There are some 60 top notch restaurants, bars and nightclubs some of which have even been included in the prestigious White Guide, with reviews of the best restaurants in Sweden. KLM flies direct to Trondheim Vaernes Airport (Norway), and from there Åre can easily be reached in about 2 hours by train or car. Are-Ostersund Airport is an hour’s drive from Åre and can be reached daily with a stopover in Stockholm.
